How to Care for Wool Clothes – Stress Free!

Maintaining wool sweaters may seem like a challenge, but don’t worry! In this blog, we’ll reveal the ultimate tips to keep your favorite woolens looking their best without fear of damage. Discover how to confidently get those beloved sweaters back in top shape!
Tip 1: Let it hang out
Wool has a natural self-cleaning property thanks to the presence of lanolin, a natural fat. When you simply leave your wool sweater outside, the lanolin comes into contact with cold and damp air, causing it to act as a natural soap. This allows the sweater to renew and refresh itself, all without the need for a washing machine. This approach not only preserves the quality of your wool items, but also contributes to a more sustainable lifestyle. A simple win-win!
Tip 2: In the washing machine
Although airing is often sufficient, stains and unpleasant odours can justify a washing machine. Use the special wool wash programme and ensure your woollens have plenty of room to move around. Choose a maximum temperature of 30°C and a maximum spin speed of 600 to reduce wear and tear. Important: avoid regular detergent! Using regular detergent can damage wool fibres, while wool detergent respects and preserves the natural properties of wool. Our wool detergent offers a soft embrace, with lanolin to preserve the beauty of your woollens.
Tip 3: Hand wash
If you prefer a more hands-on approach, hand washing is an option. Make sure the water is not too hot (max. 30 degrees) and avoid rubbing or wringing vigorously, as this can damage the fibers. Simply stir the water gently by hand. You can optionally add a small amount of wool detergent, but be sparing. Finally, always dry your wool clothing flat on a towel to preserve its shape and ensure long-term use.
Tip 4: Store with care
In addition to washing, storage is also important. Store wool clothing in a cool, dry place. Avoiding direct sunlight is essential, as is using garment bags or breathable cotton covers to keep dust and moths at bay. This attention to storage will help extend the life of your clothing.
Tip 5: Avoid over-washing
Wool naturally has the property of smelling less quickly than other fabrics. Limit the number of washes to reduce wear and extend the life of your clothing. This approach is not only kinder to the environment, but also preserves the quality of your garments.
Tip 6: Use a soft brush
To remove lint and dust, you can use a soft brush. This prevents damage to the fibers. A light touch is enough to freshen up your garment and remove surface contaminants.
Tip 7: Repair small holes quickly
Small holes or loose threads don't have to be a big problem if you deal with them quickly. Repair them immediately to prevent them from getting bigger. Fast action ensures that your clothes stay in optimal condition and minimizes further damage.
With this thoughtful approach to wool clothing care, you can cherish your beloved items with confidence and care, enjoying their warmth and comfort.
