About the brand John Hanly

Where it all began..

John Hanly & Co. traces its origins back to 1893, when Denis Hanly and his son John established a vertical woollen mill at Ballyartella, North Tipperary, along the banks of the River Nenagh. Local farmers brought their wool to the mill, where it was spun, carded and woven into blankets and flannel. In 1950, a fire destroyed much of the factory, but the mill rebuilt with a focus on weaving as its core activity.

Today, Brian Hanly, the proud representative of the fourth generation, heads the company. The mill in Ballyartella remains the beating heart of their craft, but the story has spread worldwide. Supplying top brands and designers in countries such as Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, Spain, Japan and Korea.

Created for Tomorrow
John Hanly & Co. is a heritage brand that has been weaving for over a century. Its success is due to the dedication and skill of its staff, both past and present. Contemporary creativity remains its lifeblood, with constant renewal and the addition of new colour combinations every season.
