Material & knitwear
Material & knitwear
This cardigan is made from 100% Shetland wool. A beautiful type of wool that is wonderfully warm and has plenty of character thanks to its slightly rugged texture.
What makes Harley of Scotland special is the way its knitwear is made. The cardigan is knitted seamlessly, so it has no traditional side seams. This not only gives it a beautiful finish, but also makes it comfortable to wear.
Knitted in Scotland from 100% Shetland wool.
Maintenance
Maintenance
The great thing about wool is that you don't need to wash it nearly as often as many other materials. Simply airing your cardigan outside is often enough to freshen it up.
Still need to wash it? Always follow the care label on the cardigan. Then leave it to dry flat, and don't put it in the dryer.
We also recommend storing your wool cardigan folded rather than on a hanger. That way, it will keep its shape longer!

About Harley of Scotland
Harley of Scotland has been making sweaters in the north of Scotland since 1929. What began as a small family business has grown into a brand known worldwide for its craftsmanship. The sweaters are knitted from carefully selected yarns, such as soft lambswool and pure Shetland wool. These natural materials provide warmth, comfort, and lasting wear. The family spirit is still present in every design: honest, authentic, and made to last for years.
Fair Isle patterns
The well-known Fair Isle patterns give Harley of Scotland sweaters their distinctive look. This traditional knitting style comes from the Scottish islands and is recognizable by its geometric motifs and beautiful color combinations.
The knitwear is crafted with precision, ensuring the patterns flow seamlessly and the sweater looks perfect. A Fair Isle sweater is more than clothing: it is a piece of heritage that brings tradition and style together. Timeless, eye-catching, and easy to pair with your everyday wardrobe.
Sustainable & Timeless
At Harley of Scotland, it’s all about quality that lasts. The sweaters are knitted locally in Scotland, using wool that is often spun nearby. Thanks to the seamless knitting technique, very little material goes to waste, and the sweater feels extra comfortable too.
By choosing natural fibers such as lambswool and Shetland wool, you avoid synthetic fabrics and consciously choose a more sustainable alternative. This is knitwear you’ll love wearing, season after season.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are your products made from 100% natural materials?
Yes! Our knitwear is made from 100% natural wool, carefully selected for its quality, origin, and durability. Free from synthetic fibers, you can enjoy the pure softness, warmth, and breathability of wool, so your sweaters and cardigans stay beautiful for a long time.
Is your wool mulesing-free?
Mulesing is a procedure performed on sheep that can be painful and that consumers are becoming increasingly aware of. That is why more and more people are choosing mulesing-free wool.
Our wool is 100% mulesing-free and comes from small-scale European farms where sheep are raised with care. This means you can be sure of animal-friendly, fair, high-quality wool, produced with respect for people, animals, and nature.
Pilled knitwear?
Our knitwear is made from high-quality, A-grade wool yarns with extra-long fibers. Thanks to this quality, pilling is minimal, but it’s important to know that natural wool can always pill a little.
Light pilling usually goes away on its own or can easily be removed with a wool comb or fabric shaver. After 2 to 3 treatments, the sweater’s surface stays beautifully smooth, and pilling becomes less visible or disappears altogether.
The difference lies in the quality of the wool yarns:
• A-grade yarns are longer and stronger, so they pill less quickly and your sweater stays looking good for longer.
• For comparison: C-grade yarns are shorter and often more affordable, but they continue to pill, even after the pills have been removed.
How do I wash my knitwear?
100% wool has a self-cleaning effect: because it contains lanolin (a natural fat), it works like a kind of natural soap when it comes into contact with cold air. This means that your sweaters and cardigans often stay clean without washing, which is sustainable and extends the life of your clothes.
If you want to remove strong odors or stains, carefully hand-wash your wool in cold water, or use a wool cycle in the washing machine. Please note: only do this if you’re sure the cycle is suitable for wool.
Lay your knitwear flat to dry and store it folded to help it keep its shape. This will keep your sweater or cardigan looking great and in shape for longer!
